Scanned PDF to text
Give it PDF links and get the text of every page, with a status and confidence score per page.
The job
Each PDF page is rendered at the resolution you choose (pdfDpi, default 200) and read with Tesseract, so scanned documents without a text layer become text. You get one row per page with status (ok, no_text, unreadable, too_big or fetch_failed), Tesseract's mean word confidence and the text; optional lines and markdown output.
Example input
{
"files": ["https://example.com/scan.pdf"],
"languages": ["eng"],
"minConfidence": 0.5,
"maxPages": 200,
"pdfDpi": 200
}
Example output
{
"source": "https://example.com/scan.pdf",
"page": 1,
"status": "ok",
"confidence": 0.93,
"language": "eng",
"text": "..."
}

Good to know
- Every PDF page is rendered and read as an image; an existing text layer is not used, so for PDFs that already contain text a text extractor is quicker and exact.
- Confidence is Tesseract's own estimate, not a measure of accuracy. Handwriting and low-resolution scans read poorly; no tables or layout analysis.
- About 2.5 seconds per page on the platform, so 200 pages take about 8 minutes.
